Ryan Grant could be the Packers key to a successful playoff run.

UPSET CHALLENGE EXPERTS CORNER: PLAYOFFS

Adam Zdroik, RotoExperts.com Staff Writer January 7, 2010

HIGHLIGHTS: Adam Zdroik offers his top three playoff picks for the Upset Challenge.

The playoffs are here, with only 28 points separating the Top Five players in the Upset Challenge. One bad pick can open the door for anyone looking to grab first place. The obvious strategy for the playoffs is to not pick the Colts or Saints, as they will only give you three or six points, respectively, if either of them wins the Super Bowl. I am also staying away from the Chargers and Vikings because I don't see either of them making it all the way.

Dallas (5)
The Cowboys are one of the hottest teams going into the playoffs with three impressive wins in a row in which they've only given up 17 points. Two of those opponents are in the Top Five scoring in the league (Saints and Eagles). It's not just their defense, either. Their running attack has picked back up with Marion Barber and Felix Jones, and Tony Romo finished the season with 11 touchdowns and two interceptions in his last six games. After they beat the Eagles again, I like them to beat the Vikings on the road, as the Cowboys defense takes Brett Favre and Minnesota out of the playoffs.

Green Bay (6)
I am sticking with my preseason prediction of the Packers winning the NFC Championship. After a rough start and a slew of injuries along the way, Green Bay has stuck around, and won against quality opponents such as the Cowboys and Ravens. If they get past the erratic Cardinals in the first round, they have what it takes to beat the Saints. Ryan Grant has the ability to go off for triple digits on the ground in that matchup, and they still have Aaron Rodgers behind center. Throw in a quality defense which has been inconsistent at times, but contains the pieces to win, and you can compare them with the early-season Saints. The advantage will be their defensive line, which will keep them in the hunt.

New England (8)
This is more of a wait-and-see pick. I'm not fully convinced that they can beat the Ravens, but I do believe the Patriots have a better chance against the Chargers than the Ravens do against the Colts. I think Cincinnati has a shot against San Diego if it comes to that, but I'll stick with Bill Belichick over Marvin Lewis any day. If the Patriots do get to play the Chargers, their running game is good enough to exploit the weak run defense of San Diego. Even without Wes Welker, New England has a decent chance of reaching another legendary battle with Indianapolis in the AFC Championship game.
